Hi my name is Emily Marin and I am 18 years old. I am passionate about helping others who don't have as much as us. I am involved in law enforcement in order to properly study the law and not be cruel and unethical cop. I am also in AVID so I can further my education after college. I used to volunteer at the hospital for four years in which I learned how to treat and handle all types of patients. my goals for the years is to learn as much as possible from my host family and gain a positive cultural experience. I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma but moved to Texas when I was four months old. I live with my grandparents and have learned Spanish from them since that's all they speak. I am a hispanic. They grew out of poverty from Juarez and made a life for themselves here in El Paso, Texas. They have provided for me even when they didn't have the money or when I was rude to them so they are the reason for my inspiration. They inspire me to be a good person and treat others how I would like to be treated if I was in their position. they inspire me to go after my dreams and succeed in life. the quote I live by is, " the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in the moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands in the times of challenge and controversy" -Martin Luther King. I believe this is to be true because many have not faced any hardships in their life so do not see any faults in their world and are oblivious to what is happening. everything that is happening in El Paso with our current president has shaped me to be a more humane person because it has effected my family in Juarez get citizenship and us not being able to visit due to the longer lines and threats of border shutdown.
