Tuition for Global Citizen Academy

We are pleased to offer a sliding scale model for Global Citizen Academy.

We ask that you pay at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This allows others who need to pay less the opportunity to attend. Please read on for further details regarding each level of the sliding scale, to help you select the price that best suits your family’s circumstance. We also recognize that for many families, the information represented in their FAFSA or CSS Profile may not represent the reality of your situation, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

Annual Household Income Tuition Tier
Above $200,000 $7500
$150,000-199,000 $4000
$100,000-$149,000 $1500
Below $100,000 $500 (deposit only)*

*To ensure that this tier is reserved only for families with demonstrated financial need, we request that you submit your FAFSA Student Aid Report upon selection of this tuition tier. If you are an international applicant selecting this tier, please instead complete the CSS Profile and send it electronically to Global Citizen Year (CSS code 5314).

Thanks to the support of our donors, Global Citizen Academy has a generous financial aid pool, but depending on demand we cannot guarantee the availability of aid as the application period progresses. We encourage students to apply early while financial aid is most available.

FAQs

How much does this cost?

We are pleased to offer a sliding scale model for Global Citizen Academy with tuition ranging from $500 (deposit only) to $7,500 (full tuition). We ask that you pay at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This allows others who need to pay less the opportunity to attend.

How does the sliding scale tuition work?

Although the full cost of tuition for the Academy is $7500, tuition is offered on a sliding scale. To make this program accessible, we ask that students and their families decide what is comfortable for them to pay: either the full $7500, $4000, $1500, or $500.

If you select the $500 tier, we ask that you submit a FAFSA or CSS Profile to confirm your family income, as we want to reserve spaces in that tier for families who really need it. Please email admissions@globalcitizenyear.org if you need a CSS Profile application fee waiver.

The Shawn Mendes Foundation Scholarship has made it possible for us to make the $500 tier tuition level more widely available for students worldwide, whereas previously we could admit only a limited number of students at that tier. We are authorized to offer tuition amounts lower than $500 for students in demonstrated situations of global extreme poverty. If you feel that this applies to you, please select the tuition tier that reads “$500 is cost prohibitive for me” within the application, and provide us with context about your situation.

What are the required financial aid forms for Global Citizen Academy?

Financial aid forms are required only for the tuition tiers of $500 or below.

If you select the tuition tier of $500, we request that you submit financial aid forms. This helps to ensure that this tier is reserved only for families with demonstrated financial need.

To process your financial aid, Global Citizen Academy requires that you complete and submit one of the following forms:

The CSS Profile and the FAFSA are common forms used by university admissions offices to determine your eligibility for financial aid, using your and/or your parent or guardian’s income and tax information.

How do I submit my completed CSS Profile form? (International applicants only)

Global Citizen Year (the organization behind Global Citizen Academy) can be selected from the list of institutions within the CSS Profile. When you have successfully completed the CSS Profile, you will be prompted to select an institution to electronically send your documents to. Select Global Citizen Year, and we will receive your submission electronically.

How do I submit my completed FAFSA form? (U.S. applicants only)

If you are a U.S. applicant submitting a FAFSA Student Aid report, please simply save the Student Aid Report as a PDF, and upload it to your Global Citizen Academy application.

If you have trouble with this, please email admissions@globalcitizenyear.org.
