How Hard It Is To Say Goodbye

Gabriel Varlack - Brazil

April 4, 2018

Today was a very difficult day, as it was my last day together with my host family. I woke up super early to say goodbye to everyone before they left to go to work, school, etc. I finished washing my laundry and hung it out to dry. I put everything I brought with me and more on my bed. I folded everything and had it ready to go, but I couldn't get myself to actually pack my bags. Four hours later, I was still struggling to even put the first few items in my suitcase. I took a deep breath, went and ate and got ready for the day. When I came back to my room, I still didn't have the courage to pack my bags. I decide to go to my apprentice one last time and run a few other errands to keep my mind distracted. At the end of the day, I decided to go to this park that I had never been to and promised myself I would go at least once before I leave. It was one of the most beautiful parks I have ever been to. I stayed there until sunset and finally came to the conclusion that I will never be ready to go home, but that either way it is that time. I had found my place in my community and I do not want to give that up. Brazil is such an amazing place and I have learned so much in my time here. I will never forget such a magical place, where I feel like I truly matured into the person I am today. I will forever be grateful to have had this opportunity.
