Outside Magazine Names Global Citizen Year Top 10 Best Places to Work

Oakland, CA (November 1, 2018) – Global Citizen Year a global gap year Fellowship launching a new generation of leaders with the skills, insight and perspective to move the world ahead – has been selected as one of OUTSIDE’s Best Places to Work 2018. Winning companies provide great workplaces for employees and encourage a balance between work and enjoying life in the great outdoors, while also respecting the environment.

“For us, creating global citizens starts with creating a work culture and environment that represents our organizational values, and I am overjoyed to be named one of Outside Magazine’s Top 10 Best Places to Work in recognition of our approach. We are proud to have created a work environment where diversity of opinion is welcome, hard work is rewarded, and failure is honored as part of the path to success.” says President Erin Lewellen. “I’m probably most proud that behind all of our office perks, is full belief by our staff in the work we are doing to give a transformational global gap year experience to as many high school graduates as we can.”

“Companies from across the country entered a rigorous two-part survey process to make the winning list,” said Abigail Wise, online managing editor, OUTSIDE.  “Employees took part in a survey to measure personal experience, while The Best Companies Group evaluated each company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics.”

Global Citizen Year employs 44 full-time staff in the United States, Senegal, Ecuador, India and Brazil, bringing a wide variety of experiences and expertise to our work.  In addition to traditional benefits, Global Citizen Year offers its diverse team a variety of non-traditional benefits that add to the company’s award-winning culture. A few highlights include unlimited days off policy, team-building events, a yearly stipend for professional development, a trip to one of our host countries (Brazil, Ecuador, India or Senegal) after 2 years, and a paid month-long sabbatical after 3 years. Last summer, all staff members traveled from all corners of the world for a weeklong training and retreat in Ecuador.

The winning companies are those that value productivity in combination with an active, eco-conscious lifestyle, for a fulfilling experience inside and outside the office. This is OUTSIDE’s eleventh year providing the Best Places to Work.
