Kyra Halpenny

She is passionate about self-expression (in her writing and photography), global awareness (fed by repeated exposure to life outside the US), and the ability to unite people through common interests and goals. Kyra participated in a Global Glimpse trip to Nicaragua and has been actively involved in the organization ever since. She also led a bullying awareness campaign in her community. She believes in the power of kindness, and that the quiet make the most noise. Kyra intends to use this adventure to broaden her world perspective, and allow her to become a more thoughtful global citizen. She also feels this program will give her the opportunity to continue to convey her thoughts in her chosen mediums - writing and visual.

Functionality

Dakar, Senegal – September 29, 2014 Something another Fellow said during In-Country Orientation has stuck with me. It was while we were riding snugly fit in a taxi, driving down the multi-lane highway that runs along the beaches of Dakar into downtown. We passed another…

The Watermelon Complex

Ndande, Senegal – October 20, 2014 A note to all those who love watermelon: Fruit here is a luxury, so when it is available it is cheap in the beginning, but as the season comes to an end, the prices increase, as I saw happen…
