Two years ago I embarked on a life changing experience traveling to Singapore to attend high school at the United World College of South East Asia. At UWCSEA my world was changed in many different ways. I was sharing my life and space with people from all around the word, something very odd to experience in the life of a Uruguayan kid. I was speaking a different language that the past 16 years of my life, and I was going through unimaginable adventures.
UWC showed me the world from a different perspective! I always dreamed about traveling around the world and I always new somehow that was going to happen. Instead, UWC first brought the world to me, made me understand more about different cultures and the people who live in this world and later on gave me the opportunity to expand my dream of traveling around.
Why a Gap Year?
I am a person who is constantly changing its mind on what do I want to dedicate my life in the future. I am not going to lie, but I am very scared about dedicating my life to only one thing. Sometime around the beginning of the year I watched a TED talk and I was intrigued about a particular concept, the idea of being a “multipotentialite” which is the idea of being a person that does more than one thing. I knew right there I wanted to keep exploring the world and taking as much advantage of it as possible. It was then that I decided on applying to Global Citizen Year. I believe that the next eight months in Senegal are going to be full of experiences where I will be able to apply many different areas of being a “multipotentialite” as well as to keep expanding the knowledge from all the thing I will learn by being immerse in the Senegalese culture.

Hace 2 años me embarque en una aventura que me cambio la vida, Viajando a Singapur para asistir a los Colegios del Mundo Unido del Sudeste Asiático. En UWC (siglas en Ingles) mi mundo cambio de muchas maneras distintas. Estaba compartiendo mi vida y espacio con gente de todo el mundo, una aventura muy particular para in joven Uruguayo. Estaba hablando un idioma distinto que los últimos 16 años de mi vida, y viviendo aventuras inimaginables.
UWC me mostró el mundo con muchas perspectivas diferentes! Yo siempre soñé con viajar alrededor del mundo y siempre supe que algún día pasaría. Envés de viajar alrededor del mundo, UWC primero me trajo el mundo hacia mi, haciéndome comprender mas sobre las distintas culturas y la gente que habita en este mundo, y mas adelante me dio la oportunidad de expandir mi sueño de viajar alrededor.
Por que un año sabático?
Yo soy una persona que esta constantemente cambiando de idea al respecto de que quiero dedicar mi vida en el futuro. No voy mentir, pero estoy muy asustado de dedicar mi vida a solamente una cosa. En algún momento a principios de este año, vi una charla TED y quede muy intrigado sobre un concepto particular de la charla, la idea de ser un “multipotentialite”
que a grades rasgos es la idea de serena persona que hace muchas cosas. Ahi mismo supe que querría seguir explorando el mundo y tomar la mayor cantidad de ventajas que el mundo me pueda proporcionar. Luego de un poco de búsqueda, decide aplicar a “Global Citizen Year” (Ciudadano Global) Yo creo que en los próximos 8 meses en Senegal, van a estar lleno de experiencias para poder aplicar las distintas areas de ser un “multipotentialite”. a si mismo como seguir expandiendo mi conocimiento, de todas las cosas nuevas que voy a aprender de la Cultura Senegalesa
