My Brazilian Family

The idea of family played a big role while I was in Brazil. I have them to thank for my Portuguese and my ability to take on a new culture and environment. I had such a life changing experience with my host family and I hope to one day be able to return back to Florianópolis to see them again. In this short post, I want to share a little bit of the final days with my host family before I left back to the US.

This picture was taken with my host dad, host brother, and a bunch of host cousins who I only got to see about once a month. This picture was after a long hike through the forest to reach the top of a small waterfall.

This picture is from a small town called Pomerode, which was awarded as the most "German" town in Brazil (even more than Blumenau)! During Easter, the whole town is decorated in Easter eggs, and all of the buildings are very reminiscent of traditional German houses. I was here with my host mom and host brother.

This is a picture from the first day of Carnaval. My host dad had driven me to the city center to show me all of the floats and festivities that day.
