During the month of October I learned a lot about the political situation
in Brazil. Brazil is a beautiful country, rich in culture and traditions. A
big country, where each state has different necessities. During the
election process, I talked with people who had different thoughts and
opinions about the social, economic and environmental context and problems.
With different beliefs in how they can be solved and political support. The
most famous political parties are the Workers Party (PT) in which Lula was
president. However, this time led it by Dilma Rousseff who aspired to the
presidency in and Jair Bolsonaro with the Social Liberal Party (PSL) with
an incredibly increase in the number of followers in the last days before
the first elections. Like any nation, people want transparency, changes,
and for the government to fight corruption in order to have a better system
that increases the quality of life of the habitants.
To win elections in brazil, the political party needs to obtain 50%
plus votes. In the case of Bolsonaro, he was the hope of the change for
many Brazilians from the first round where he showed it with 46.03% votes.
On the other hand, (PT) was also supported by a big part of the population,
but not enough compared to Bolsonaro, and the party obtained 29.28% votes
in the first round. The decision of who would be the next brazilian
president was in the hands of the 24.69% of the population who did not vote
for any of them. Bolsonaro was not far from winning since the first round.
From my perspective and conversations with the local people, the main
issues that divided and defined the vote of the majority of Brazilians was
religion, approve laws and education, all the way to the support of LGBT.
Lula´s Jailing and Investigations of possible corruption of his party (PT).
These points were the most decisive for the majority of Brazilians.
It should be noted that from the first round of the elections there
was already a movement against Bolsonaro called “Ele não”. The movement
made parades and protests. The purpose of the movement was to vote for any
candidate except. I participated in the movement one day and it was amazing
to see so many people united for just one reason, go against him.
Currently, Jair Bolsonaro is the Brazilian president.
