Culture Shock? What’s That?

Exiting the plane after a two-day flight, I touched down in Dakar. I thought to myself, "I'm in Africa, I made it." I was so happy to finally be in "The Motherland", surrounded by people that looked like me and a similar culture to many African Americans. I was so excited to embark on this year's journey, live & learn in Africa and have tons of experiences that I'd be able to share with people back home. I looked at my peers and observed their anxiety which I'd been missing. Throughout ICO, the concept of culture shock came up a few times. Each time it was brought up I never listened because it never applied to me. I understand that there may be some things that one isn't familiar with but I don't believe in being shocked by it, that's sounds like being close-minded.
