Coming Home

Coming home has always been one of my favorite feelings. I love the mountains I grew up in, I love the people that love me here, and I love the way everything goes the way I expect it to. Coming home from Brazil felt no different. I was greeted by people I loved, places I’d missed and customs I was used to. However; I felt different, I like to think a little bit bigger and a tiny bit smarter. This feeling has me reflecting back on my time in Brazil a lot lately. I’ve been thinking about the experiences and people and good times and bad times that made me the person I am today. As happy as I was to come, I’ve been missing Brazil and all the gifts it gave me in a very intense way. For my capstone project for GCY, I created a video, which compiled one-second videos I took almost everyday of my 9 months in Brazil into a longer video. (This video is posted in my previous blog post!). Looking back at this video as I close this chapter of my life has me feeling very grateful for my program, host family, friends, fellow GCY kids, the Portuguese language, the community of Garopaba and the country of Brazil. I know I will carry this experience with me for the rest of my life, and I am a better person for it.

Thank you for sharing pieces of this journey with me!
