J.I. Cruz

J.I. is a 24-year-old software engineer and climate activist from Bayamón, Puerto Rico. He’s passionate about systems thinking, philosophy, local government and cooperative economics. He’s a Global Citizen Year 2015 Senegal alumnus; he attended American University as a Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholar from 2015 – 2018; he dropped out to pursue energy justice community activism following the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico; and he was a T-Mobile / Ashoka Changemaker in 2018 and 2019. Currently, J.I. is a software engineer for Kevala, an energy grid analytics start-up in San Francisco, and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. J.I. wants us to live in harmony with each other and with nature, and is humbly figuring that out, and would love to help you figure it out too.
