NEW FORD FOUNDATION GRANT ADVANCES GLOBAL CITIZEN YEAR’S MISSION TO BUILD A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS THROUGH A TRANSFORMATIVE BRIDGE YEAR BEFORE COLLEGE.
Oakland, California – Global Citizen Year (en.globalcitizenyear.org), a non-profit social enterprise forging a new educational pathway for America’s emerging leaders, is pleased to announce a new grant from the Ford Foundation to expand the reach and impact of its programs in the coming years. Multi-year support from the Ford Foundation helps catalyze an ambitious 5-year growth plan which will expand Global Citizen Year’s core program tenfold while changing the national conversation about the value – and necessity – of transforming the pipeline and perspectives of our next generation of global leaders.
The Ford Foundation’s generous commitment supports Global Citizen Year’s Growth Fund, which will enable the following goals by 2020:
“We are honored to welcome the Ford Foundation as a key funder in our next phase of growth,” said Abigail Falik, Founder and CEO of Global Citizen Year. “As one of the oldest and most influential foundations in the world, the Ford Foundation has long been a leader in catalyzing bold visions at the forefront of social change. Their support affirms the impact of the pre-college ‘bridge year’ in transforming young people’s lives, and opens the door for other major donors and partners to join our movement.”
The Ford Foundation and Global Citizen Year share a commitment to strengthening international cooperation, reducing poverty and injustice, and investing in next generation leadership. Global Citizen Year will join the Ford Foundation’s portfolio of visionary organizations driving innovative, social change in communities at home and around the world.
