Selection Team Member

As a member of the Selection Team you will play a critical role in shaping the next Global Citizen Year cohort. Members of the Selection Team assist our Admissions team in identifying applicants who have the potential to be extraordinary Fellows. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Completing online training.
  • Interviewing applicants and completing thorough evaluations
  • Representing Global Citizen Year and our culture to applicants. Remember that during interviews the applicant is also evaluating our program and seeing if it is a good match for them!


As a Selection Team Member you will

  • Receive training and individual coaching on how to successfully conduct an interview and evaluate applicants
  • Flexible hours that work with your schedule and time zone
  • Stay connected to Global Citizen Year and the bridge year movement!
  • Join a community of fellow Selection Team members and share your learnings with each other
  • Directly shape the future Global Citizen Year cohort while getting to know future Fellows and having fun along the way 🙂


What we're looking for in you

Global Citizen Year will provide thorough training in the skills necessary to be a member of the Selection Team. We are looking for people who can represent Global Citizen Year and engage in thoughtful evaluation. Successful Selection Team members will possess the following traits:

  • Passionate: You are passionate about Global Citizen Year and our mission. This is apparent when you talk about your own bridge year experience.
  • Effective Communicator (written and verbal): You are an active listener and exceptional communicator who presents information with clarity and precision. You acknowledge that the student is taking a bold leap and engage with the applicant in a way that represents our Global Citizen Year culture.
  • Open to Feedback: You are eager to improve your interviewing and evaluation skills and welcome ongoing feedback throughout the process.
  • Accountable: You can be counted on to abide by deadlines and follow up with applicants in a timely manner.


As a Selection Team Member you are committing to

  • Completing an online training in August (~2.5 hours)
  • Conducting and Evaluating Interviews(up to 8 hours per month between December – June) – You can post times according to your own availability.
  • Each interview will take ~1.5 hours (15 minutes to prep, 1 hours to interview, 15 minutes to write evaluation) Our heaviest interview times are during September, December, March, and May.
  • September, December, March, and May – post 5 interview slots each month
  • October, November,January, February, April, June, July, August – post 3 interview slots each month

Your actual time commitment depends on how many of your interview slots are chosen. This is a year-round position as our application is now open all year. We will check in with you in July 2019 to discuss continuation as a Selection Team member.

This is a volunteer position (but you’ll get some fun swag!).
