Director of Development Operations

The Director of Development Operations will ensure structure and efficiency in our fundraising efforts. We are embarking on a new five year strategic plan, and this role will manage our day to day strategic fundraising efforts to fund and actualize this ambitious and exciting plan. The Director of Development Operations will lead the execution of our donor pipeline management, funder stewardship and engagement, all fundraising systems and tracking, and foundation and corporate grants.

Position Summary


Manage donor pipeline

  • Create and manage systems to track incoming leads and oversee vetting process
  • Oversee moves management strategy
  • Manage CEO and VP Business Development to maximize “return on effort”, including support for meeting prep and follow-up Donor stewardship and engagement
  • Oversee donor stewardship including strategy, calendar and communications
  • Develop and manage cultivation plans for current and future funders, including scheduling site visits, responding to requests for information and ensuring that the grants process is followed
  • Oversee donor communication strategy
  • Lead planning of targeted major donor events Systems and forecasting
  • Manage revenue projections, tracking and reconciliation
  • Ensure the tracking and reporting of visits and results
  • Own all fundraising systems, including tracking software, pipeline management, grant files and donor records
  • Oversee the management, accountability and reporting of all donor information; ensure that donors' records are up-to-date and secure in Salesforce Grants management
  • Manage the preparation and submission of grant proposals for foundation and corporate support: work with senior management team to develop strategy and approach for each grant, collaborate with the Director of Finance & Operations to prepare grant budgets, prepare funder reports
  • Foundation strategy oversight: manage next steps on prospect leads, create and execute strategy on foundation relationship building Team Management
  • Manage team of 2 Development Associates: weekly 1:1 with each member, weekly team meeting, mid-year & annual reviews
  • Liaison to the Development & Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors: prepare materials, help set agenda and lead on follow up

The following skills are required:

  • Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences.
  • Relationship Building and Management: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong long-lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Experience in planning and managing projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and CRM systems is required; experience with Salesforce preferred
  • 3-5 years of management experience
