Sahar Thomson

Born and raised on the island of Sint Maarten, Sahar Thomson is passionate about discovering her passions. She gears her actions towards growth, and that growth has come in the form of failed and successful projects in musical theatre (co-directing and choreographing for Hairspray the musical at United World College Maastricht), animal conservation (Sparkling Elephant Project), organizing events (TEDx Youth and the graduation ceremony at UWCM), or volunteer projects abroad (Kuungana Project in Tanzania), but she is obsessed with, and inspired by, reflecting on and learning from her mistakes and successes. The next big opportunity of learning comes in the form of Ecuador, and she aims to use her time there to connect as deeply as she can with the people who cross her path, communicate with them in their mother tongue, explore what skills she can gain, and everything else Ecuador has to offer.

For the third time this summer, I found myself suffering from a sore shoulder, because apparently you can’t just hop on a plane and move to another country you’ve never been to without the proper vaccines.    I endure this for you Ecuador!    People always ask me, what kind of study I’ll be doing there for a year?...
