Hillarie is passionate about sustainable agriculture, natural resources, and the outdoors. She spend a semester at an environmental education school which inspired her to take leadership and action in her community. She helped teach agriculture education to elementary students about modern farming and planting tomatoes. In high school she helped create the school garden which connects students to fresh produce and also spend a summer volunteering at the Environmental Protection Agency on a climate change project in peat bogs. She is an alpine ski racer and diver. Her goal for the year is to be inspired by the culture and discover the socioeconomic structure of food and farming of her community in Ecuador. Her connection to the environment and meeting new people inspire her to be adventurous.
