How to balance the Academy
with your schedule

Three Academy students share tips to manage and organize your time to get the most out of your day.

Are you thinking of applying to the Global Citizen Year Academy but are feeling unsure about finding time in your schedule?

As three students who are doing the Academy alongside high school and college, we get that sometimes it might be difficult to manage various tasks at the same time; but it’s definitely not impossible! Most students in the Academy are also involved with other activities, including high school, universities, United World College and even gap years. Yet despite an existing workload, they’ve all found good ways to distribute their time and energy in order to get maximum output in their daily life. Based on our experiences, we’ll highlight some of these six tips with you:

1. Plan your day

It doesn’t have to be a strict schedule, but try to write down all the tasks you need to complete during the day. This will ensure that you divide your time according to the tasks at hand and don’t forget anything. You’ll be able to manage your time better.

2. Define your time

Give yourself specific times to do each task. This will help you to determine how much time each activity requires and help you to organize the next activities better.

3. Do one activity at a time

Being a multi-tasker is not always an advantage, because it can become difficult to really concentrate. Instead, focus your attention on one task at a time, do your best, avoid distractions, and then pass to the next activity.

5. Define priorities

Know how to differentiate between what is important (things you must do) and what is urgent (things you need to do right now). This will help you to plan your day in an efficient way.

6. Remember to rest

In order to prepare yourself for each day and have energy, it’s fundamental that you take your time to just chill. Take time to rest, and to do something that you enjoy.

Also, since the Academy course is offered in multiple time zones and schedules, you have the opportunity to select the course time that works best for you. So, what are you waiting for? Apply now!
